Living STEP's Core Values - SAFETY

In the evening of Friday, April 17, STEP's HSE Manager, Chris Kirby, came home and found his neighbor's land on fire. After phoning the local authorities, he helped the rural volunteer fire fighters battle the blaze for about five hours in 50-plus kph winds. Chris had to turn and run away several times when the fire in the fields raced to the east. They were able to prevent it from crossing the coulee valley and burning up that home and nearby community center. The fire was most likely caused by lightning from a passing dark cloud, setting hay bales alight. When Chris took his coveralls off, he found that the smoke had completely penetrated through, even into his boots.

Safety moment: Always be prepared! Carry safety gear with you because you never know when you will need it.
