STEP Accomplishes “Goal Zero” On 12-Month HSE Performance; Reaches New Ct Depth Record; Increases Fracturing Services Capabilities

Calgary, AB (August 12, 2016) – Settling into its role as the third largest pressure pumping company in Western Canada after the asset and equipment acquisition of Sanjel, STEP has recorded several notable accomplishments the past few months.

On Thursday, August 11 STEP logged 365 days without a recordable incident, bringing its 12-month rolling total recordable incident frequency (TRIF) to zero.

“A year ago we set a goal to be at a zero TRIF,” said Steve Glanville, chief operating officer. “Today I am proud to say that with the collective mindset of “Goal Zero” we accomplished just that, and together we will celebrate this very meaningful milestone.”

“As our first and most important core value, safety is priority in and out of the field for the benefit of both STEP’s professionals and clients. A zero-TRIF score is not often reached by industry, let alone a company who has experienced tremendous growth and recruitment in a short period of time. This record accomplishment is an endorsement of STEP's laser-beam focus on its culture of safety.”

Always Safe, Always Professional – ASAP
STEP also launched an internal safety campaign this summer–Always Safe, Always Professional (ASAP). The acronym, which is commonly used to imply urgency and immediacy, is a purposeful reminder for STEP professionals to take a moment and stay safety minded, always. Whether it’s at home or at work, on the lake or on the road, STEP wants its professionals and their families to always keep safety at the forefront.

In July, STEP added a third 24-hour fracturing services crew based out of Grande Prairie, AB. This addition adds a second spread with bi-fuel capabilities to the Company’s fleet. STEP has the largest bi-fuel fracturing fleet in Canada, totalling 80,000 HP or 30 per cent of the entire fleet. Bi-fuel reduces diesel consumption up to 65 per cent, creates a safer work site, lowers operating costs, and reduces the impact to the environment.

STEP has increased it fracturing services market share significantly and is currently providing full sales and engineering support for the WCSB’s most active plays–Cardium, Duvernay, Falher, Montney, and Wilrich. STEP was able to recruit personnel talent with significant experience and technology knowledge through the recent Sanjel transaction. The Company is being recognized by industry peers and clients for its technical expertise, service focus, and commitment to providing an Exceptional Client Experience.

STEP has set another coiled tubing (CT) depth record for the Company and Western Canada. On July 11, the crew reached an amazing depth of 7,091m (23,264 ft) with 2-3/8" (60.3 mm) CT, breaking the previous record of 7,069m (23,192 ft) with 2-3/8" (60.3 mm) CT set in October 2015.
