Calgary, AB (March 3, 2014) – A significant achievement was made in STEP Energy Services’ HSE department earlier this quarter. STEP received an exceptional score on the Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit. The COR audit was conducted for the purpose of re-certifying the company as a COR holder in Alberta and in British Columbia. The audit process commenced in December 2013 using the Enform COR Audit Protocol. STEP’s overall audit score was an outstanding 96 per cent, a four per cent increase from their 2012 score. The external auditor commented that “this is the highest score [he has] ever issued for any company in 15 years of auditing with this program”. This score demonstrates a marked improvement from 2012 and emphasizes our commitment to safety.
The COR audit process includes documentation review, observation tours at 12 worksites including offices, shops and field work sites, as well as interviews with employees, contractors and visitors.
“Our peers are conducting the same type of audits and are achieving passing scores, but what makes STEP different is our people” says Chris Kirby, HSE manager. “Safety is one of our core values; we strive to hire professionals who live those values both in and out of the workplace. It is an attitude - a very real, mature and well cultivated attitude. If you have this kind of attitude, working safely is easy and becomes second nature.”
STEP Energy Services logged over 546,000 man hours in 2013. A high number of working hours means higher exposure to safety concerns on a daily basis. “We successfully manage risk by utilizing safe work procedures, standard operating procedures and by holding weekly safety meetings demonstrating our commitment to safety from the top down,” comments Mr. Kirby. “All professionals are engaged in our comprehensive HSE procedures and policies through extensive training and certification programs. It is just one of the ways we strive to deliver an Exceptional Client Experience.”
