Calgary, AB (March 3, 2015) –Every quarter the STEP-UP Award is given out to professionals who demonstrate acts of good service, are good community members and Samaritans, and deliver STEP’s core values on a daily basis. This quarter Tina White, DOT Administrator, was nominated as the recipient for her community work at the Blackfalds Service Center. Tina manages the bottle recycling program by collecting bottles, recycling them for cash and donating the money to back to the local community.
Tina has volunteered as long as she can remember in many ways and for different organizations including Big Brothers and Sisters, coaching various kids’ sports (baseball, soccer, gymnastics and swim team), being a Brownies and Sparks leader, and working at a food bank. She’s always found community involvement and volunteerism very fulfilling and personally satisfying and has instilled these values in her children who also volunteer.
Not only does Tina volunteer on her personal time, but she’s heavily involved in community initiatives at work. She’s managed the recycling program at STEP for over a year now donates the recycling money to local organizations like the Blackfalds Elementary School Breakfast program, the Blackfalds community support program for the elderly, a minor baseball team, and the Christmas Spirit campaign this year. To date, STEP has donated more than $500 back to the community just from bottle recycling. Last June, Tina volunteered with a number of other STEP professionals, at the Blackfalds Days BBQ, where they cooked and served burgers to over 400 parade goers off of the STEP BBQ trailer.
