International Women's Day 2026: Celebrating Three Influential Women at STEP

International Women's Day 2026: Celebrating Three Influential Women at STEP

In celebration of International Women’s Day (which happens to fall within STEP's 15-year anniversary month), we proudly showcase three influential women who have been with us since STEP's early days. From sustainability and marketing to business solutions and training, these professionals inspire inclusion and help shape the future of our industry. Their leadership, resilience, and commitment to supporting others continue to strengthen STEP’s culture and long-term success.

Christine Crawford, Vice President, Sustainability and Communications, Calgary, AB Corporate Office

Christine began as a consultant for STEP when the company first started in 2011, and officially joined the company in 2012 as Manager, Marketing and Communications. She has grown alongside the company, advancing to Director in 2018 before stepping into her current executive role. With nearly two decades of experience in marketing and communications, primarily within the energy services sector, she has played an important role in shaping STEP’s brand, storytelling, and corporate initiatives during periods of significant growth and transformation.

Since August 2023, Christine has served as Vice President, Sustainability and Communications, leading STEP’s marketing and communications programs while advancing the company’s sustainability strategy. Her role focuses on strengthening how STEP communicates its purpose, supports its professionals, and continues building a responsible and forward-looking organization.

Christine's work reflects the spirit of #GivetoGain by creating connection and shared understanding across teams, clients, and communities. Through clear communication and thoughtful strategy, she helps ensure STEP’s progress is supported by transparency, accountability, and long-term thinking.

Chandra Mugford, Senior Business Systems Analyst, Blackfalds, AB Service Center

Chandra has worked in IT and business analysis since 2003 and has been with STEP for nearly 13 years. As a Senior Business Systems Analyst, she gathers requirements, analyzes processes, manages projects, and supports testing and system improvements across the organization.

She joined STEP seeking the family atmosphere she knew existed within the company and says that sense of connection remains strong today. Among her proudest accomplishments was leading the establishment of the ITGC CSOX control framework, creating a strong compliance foundation. She has also contributed to STEPFx, supporting data integration efforts that improve efficiency across teams.

For Chandra, #GivetoGain is about synergy. When everyone contributes to an idea or project, it builds trust, momentum, and progress. Her advice to young women is to step beyond their comfort zone, advocate respectfully for their ideas, and stay focused on supporting their clients and colleagues.

Jessica Johnson, Training Coordinator, Midland, TX Service Center

With more than 25 years in the West Texas oil and gas industry, Jessica plays a key role in training and supporting STEP’s U.S. professionals. She leads new hire onboarding, recertifications, maintains training records, and coordinates uniforms. Most importantly, she is often the first person new professionals meet during “STEP Right In”, STEP’s onboarding program.

Jessica joined STEP in 2018 as an Office Administrator and transitioned into the Training Coordinator role in 2021. The opportunity pushed her outside her comfort zone, but she embraced it. “STEP saw potential in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself,” she shares.

To Jessica, #GivetoGain means investing in people. When you give your time, encouragement, and knowledge, everyone benefits. Her advice to young women is to not let self-doubt guide their decisions. Keep showing up and trust your ability to grow.

These women demonstrate leadership through action, collaboration, and consistency. By giving their time, knowledge, and support, they help others succeed and continue to strengthen STEP’s future.

Happy International Women’s Day.
