STEP Energy Services sets a new Canadian coiled tubing depth record in the Duvernay, reaching 8,525 meters through disciplined execution and advanced well intervention expertise.

The previous Canadian coiled tubing depth record stood at 8,367 meters (27,450 feet). During this operation, STEP exceeded that benchmark by 158 meters (519 feet), ultimately reaching a measured depth of 8,525 meters (27,969 feet) and establishing a new national standard for coiled tubing operations in the Duvernay.

During the operation, crew 33C08 first exceeded the previous record on January 10, 2026, reaching a measured depth of 8,513 meters (27,929 feet). As the program progressed, the team extended the depth further on January 14, ultimately achieving 8,525 meters (27,969 feet) and establishing a new benchmark for operational excellence.

Achieving extended reach at these depths requires careful planning, flawless execution, and close coordination between field and engineering teams. The program was designed to manage friction, maintain wellbore integrity, and support consistent weight transfer while prioritizing safety and operational reliability throughout the operation.
